Soldano Fan Amps

Marc Dabe's "Sweet" Soldano Astroverb 2 x 12 Combo
There are two things that are not stock on the amp. First, the white piping above the grill cover. I thought the amp looked better with it. The black grill cloth and black tolex are so similar that they needed something to visually separate the two elements. I sent photos of the amp to Soldano and they liked it. In fact they indicated that they had considered similar trim treatments to their amps. Secondly. I had my amp outfitted with a long spring reverb tank from Soldano. It is the same long spring tank found on their bigger combos. The original short tank sounded good but the long spring tank is a little smoother and it fits right in the the 212 cabinet.

Soldano SLO-60 Head

I found this little beauty for sale on eBay. Notice the killer purple tolex!!! :D No I didn't actually buy it. However, I seriously though about it. I figured it was best that I passed on it to keep my marriage intact. ;-)

This is the very rare Soldano SLO-60. It's 60 watts of all tube tone and very rare. It is hand numbered #53 out of 100 and made in the southern California factory. It sounds like a Marshall JMP on steroids! It doesn't have that thin tinny buzzy type of metal distortion most modern amps have. But a tone heavy rock type breakup. This amp sounds really good mainly because the output tubes are NOS black plate large bottle RCA 6L6 GC (about $130 pair) that are biased. The preamp tubes are all new (I think they are JJ Tesla or maybe Sovtek's) and they sound awesome. All in all the amp is kicks a mules ass! The tube sockets are all chassis mount, not like the hot rod series where they are mounted to a PC board. It has an FX loop, pre out and level, and accepts 4, 8, and 16 ohm cabinets. It has new purple tolex that looks great!
